French Students' Host Families

Each year LWCC undertakes an exciting yearly opportunity to coordinate a three-week stay for foreign exchange students. These students are part of a program in France that teaches English and offers a three-week experience living with and American family.

This is a great opportunity for us to open our homes, welcome these students, and give them a heart-link to an American family.  Are you willing to open your hearts and home to a student or teacher of another culture?

General information:

  • 2008 program dates are July 30 - Aug 20th
  • 15 French students plus a French chaperone will need host accommodations
  • Host families sign up for either a boy, girl, or chaperone
  • Students are generally between the ages of 15 and 18
  • The purpose of the program is to involve the student in activities, functions, and "culture" of their host families and to experience the "American way of life."
  • Each family would be responsible for housing and feeding their student in a safe and healthy environment

Details:

  • Each student brings his or her own spending money
  • Student activity fees are fully paid by Horizons Du Monde
  • Each student is covered with a no deductible insurance plan.
  • During their stay, we will have 3 full-day activities and 3 half-day planned activities. Families provide transportation to the local pickup and drop-off points for these excursions.
  • Families can accompany their student on many activities, if they wish.
  • The local pickup and drop off point will mostly be in the Living Word Community Church (LWCC) parking lot. When applicable, bus transportation will be provided from this area for the students to their activities.
  • Some possible activities could include a trip to Washington D.C., Hershey Park, NYC, and laser tag. A schedule will be given to each family.
  • Generally Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be "free time" for the students and their host families.
  • Some students will also have half-day English as a Second Language (ESL) classes 3 days a week. Host families provide transportation for the students to and from these classes held  at LWCC.
  • We are collecting names of prospective host families for these students.  Following, we will meet briefly with each prospective host in their home to ensure requirements are met and to fill out brief necessary paperwork. The visit should not be more then 30 minutes unless the host families have further questions.
