What's the Big Deal About Art?

Each of us is created in the image of God, the Master Creator and Artist. Therefore, we too, have the ability to create beauty that brings Glory to Him. That is the real purpose of art.

Often we surpress our creative urge because there are more important things to do. We ignore the longing buried deep in our heart - the desire to paint, write, sculpt, draw, or whatever creative interests He's given us. When we ignore this longing, we rob ourselves of an opportunity to develop a God-given facet vital to who we are.

Art is an expression of the human heart. Creating can be a form of heartfelt prayer, a time where you encounter the Creator Himself; transformation occurs in the heart of the artist.

Not only does God speak to us through our own artistic means, He uses our art to speak to others who encounter and interact with it. It's amazing, beautiful, and mysterious.

The Gallery @ Common Grounds, Living Word's coffee bar, is a venue for the artistic dabblers and dreamers to courageously share their heartfelt expression through creative mediums. We hope you encounter God through the art on display, and we pray that you'll be inspired to discover the artist within yourself.

Participate in the Gallery @ Common Grounds

We are always seeking artistic dabblers within our church family to participate in the coffee bar exhibits. No need to be a professional artist. You just need a heart to create for His glory and the courage to see your work on display for the whole church to experience. At this time we can only accept wall hung art. However, we'd like to expand our capability to accommodate three dimensional art, such as pottery, sculpture and the like. Click the links below for more information.

If writing is your creative avenue, then seek out the Inklings publication, which is a compilation of written expression by men and women in our church. (See more info below). You can find copies of it at Common Grounds. Also seek out the Heart Behind the Art publication which tells the artists' story and their creative journey with God though their art.

For more information about the Gallery @ Common Grounds, please contact deAnn Roe via email or 848-4293 x126.

All self-proclaimed, men and women, writerly folk or those exploring writing are welcome to contribute to Inklings, which is published every ten weeks. Above is the cover of the June - August Inklings. Pick up a copy of the current Inklings at Common Grounds Coffee Bar at Living Word.

Inklings is part of the Creative Arts ministry of LW.

If you are a woman...and love your pen, pencil or keyboard because it is your instrument for expression, you are invited to check out "Reflective Souls - Writing for Women".

Reflective Souls meets at Common Grounds Coffee Bar of Living Word. It's a monthly gathering for women writers to build community together, grow as writers and be challenged to explore and express faith in and through the written word. Go to Reflective Souls for more on this.

Other writing groups are forming at LW. To hear more, contact deAnn Roe at 848-4293 x126 or via email.
